Sore Throats
Sore throats are common in children and teenagers. This is because young people have not built up immunity against many of the viruses and bacteria that can cause sore throats.
Sore throats are often caused by viruses, as with coughs and colds, so the advice is normally to rest and take plenty of fluids. Only where persistent flu-like symptoms, pus on the tonsils and large glands in the neck are present might antibiotics be prescribed.
