Cervical Smears

Our practice nurses undertake cervical smears.
All sexually active women between the ages of 25 and 65 are advised to have a cervical smear test.
Cervical smears are recommended every three years for women aged 25-50 and every five years for women 50-65 years.
The test is important as it can detect early signs of pre-cancer of the cervix which can be easily treated.
Normally the Health Authority will remind women when their next test is due.
If you think you are overdue for a test and have not been sent an invitation please contact the surgery.
