Film inspiration

Dr Lightwing's eldest son, Daniel, has inspired the creation of a new film, X+Y, which is based upon his childhood and adolescence. It was released internationally on Friday and is on at City Screen and Vue in York. It has had excellent reviews following its international premiere at Toronto Film Festival and you may have seen Dan’s interviews in the press and on television. It came 2nd out of 270 films at a recent international film festival and was awarded 'Film of the Week' in The Times last week. Mark Kermode, a well-respected film reviewer on Radio 5 Live, gave it a very good review on Friday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b054p0fn

He is keen that, as well as being a piece of entertaining cinema, it helps people to understand something about autism. To this end he has also written three blogs for the Huffington Post. Their release is staggered but the first is available now at: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/daniel-lightwing-/xy-film-daniel-lightwing_b_6845324.html

Dan spent a weekend with the actor Asa Butterfield (Enders Game, Hugo and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and we all agree he has done an amazing job in portraying Dan's unique mannerisms. The cast also includes Sally Hawkins, Rafe Spall and Eddie Marsan. We hope that you may get a chance to see the film; you will experience tears as well as laughter and it also contains some amusing scenes in a GP surgery!
